How to make Windows XP appear in grayscale?

You can try going into the appearance settings by right clicking on your desktop and just change all the colors to gray’s/blacks. But I don’t think you can change every single thing that way, but maybe it will help. If your having headaches when your screen isn’t bright, have you considered the fact that you may need glasses? (If you don’t have them prescribed already). I’ve heard that people whom get headaches from text/print, often just need glasses to solve their problem.

Really found it useful. I wanted to make eveything grayscale, and this is great first step. Though the post did not have detailed instructions (there are many properties in the advenced menus like buttons/windows/icons/menus/borders/etc). You have to select grayscale color for each of them. Can be done using cutom color (choose any inbuolt color, set its saturation to 0, and save it as custom color).
