Automatic Secure File Deletion for Windows XP:

Rather than just encrypting the folder, you might want to consider creating a separate partition, use TrueCrypt (free) to encrypt that permanently and move your Temporary Internet Files folder (in Internet Explorer) to another location on this new partition.
If need be, you can use GParted to easily resize your partitions, non-destructively to leave space and create another, new partition on the hard drive. Then format this new partition in Windows.

Upgrade to Windows XP 64 or stay with windows xp 32?

Upgrade to Windows XP 64 or stay with windows xp 32?

Basically, there is not enough software that runs on 64 bit to justify the change, regardless of if you are using xp or vista. Maybe in a few years, but right now, stick with 32 bit for sure.

“The code optimized for 64 bits is executed much faster, but the SSE 2 optimized one is constant. 3D applications dont benefit from the migration from 32 bit to 64 bit, probably because of the GPU. The 64 bit video drivers didnt improve significantly the performance, but didnt decrease it either.

In this moment, Windows XP 64 bits is not an option for AMD 64 owners. The incompatibility with 32 bit programs is one of the problems of Windows XP 64 bits. For programmers things are different, the compiling of the programs being done much faster.

The optimization for 64 bits is clearly a step forward, but momentarily, the only benefit you can obtain by installing this operating system is the possibility of administering more than 4 GB of RAM.

The test pointed out that as long as there isnt a wide range of 64 bit applications, migrating from Windows x32 to Windows x64 is not yet justified, the complications regarding drivers and incompatibility being major disadvantages.”

Transfer all my itunes info over to my xp install on windows 7

Transfer all my itunes info over to my xp install on windows 7:

Just use the “Consolidate Library” option in iTunes, then copy over your iTunes music folder in its entirety and you’ll be fine.

(Copy the “\????\Music\iTunes” folder on your 7 installation to the “\Documents and Settings\????\My Documents\My Music\iTunes” folder on your XP installation, where ???? is your username.)

Alternatively, you can just use the “Back Up Library” option in iTunes on 7 to burn your entire library - including info etc. - to blank CDs or DVDs. This kills two birds in one stone - not only are you backing up your music, but you can also just pop one of those discs into your XP installation, open iTunes, and it’ll do everything for you.

Check the hard drive manufactures website for utilities that relate to the hard drive. If you post the brand of the HD I can probably help you better.

Also, the UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD) contains a number of utilities for the Hard Drive.  It has all of the hard drive diagnostic tools in one spot for many of the major manufacturers.
